A Fine Line Farewell

How do fillers work?

Cosmetic fillers work by increasing volume in areas that have lost volume or adding volume to areas you wish to improve. When this gel is injected, it acts like an inflatable cushion to support facial structures and tissues that may have lost volume or elasticity due to normal aging. It also brings water to the surface of the skin to keep it looking fresh and supple.

Am I a candidate for dermal fillers?

We welcome adults seeking non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Ideal candidates have visible signs of aging, desire facial contouring, or want to enhance specific features.

However, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, those with certain allergies, or active skin infections should avoid fillers.

Expectations should be realistic – fillers offer significant improvements but won't mimic surgical results. Dr. Diederich will assess your individual needs and health during a consultation to determine if dermal fillers are your best option for achieving a refreshed, natural-looking appearance.

Dermal Fillers for Men

Men benefit from dermal filler injections in many of the same areas as women including around the mouth and eyes.

We also use filler injections to add volume to the jaw and chin for a stronger, more defined profile and an enhanced sense of masculinity. Men with lips that are naturally thin or have thinned with age benefit from lip augmentation with filler injections as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cosmetic fillers are very safe. Most of the products are similar or the same as those naturally found in your body. There are risks that must be discussed prior to the procedure in a complimentary consultation.

In most cases, side effects from JUVÉDERM and/or Restylane® are mild and typically last 7 days or less. Side effects, should they occur, include redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration in the area of injection.

The effects can last from 6 months to over 1 year; however, this depends on the product and the location. When used to plump and contour lips, fillers generally last around 6 months.

Often there is little to no downtime with these procedures. Occasionally you may develop some bruising that can often be covered with makeup. Swelling is common and can take up to 2 weeks for the filler to integrate into your body’s tissue.

The only discomfort associated with lip injections is the tiny pinch of the initial puncture, made with a very fine needle. Injectable products are pre-mixed with a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable during your procedure. We can also apply a topical anesthetic prior to your lip augmentation treatment.

Although generally safe, side effects and complications from cosmetic fillers can include:

  • Bruising and pain at the injection site.
  • Redness.
  • Headache.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Nausea.
  • Vision changes or loss.
