Sculptra Aesthetic works gradually over time to create a more youthful-looking appearance.
We use Sculptra Aesthetic at our Glen Carbon, IL, med spa to stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production, restore its inner structure, and increase lost facial volume. It works with your body within the deep dermis to revitalize collagen production and restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. Sculptra is FDA-approved to increase collagen production, therefore providing the skin with a natural glow.
What to Expect
After a consultation with one of our nurse practitioner injectors, the Sculptra treatment occurs in our office near Maryville.
To reduce any common swelling and bruising within 24 hours of receiving Sculptra, you should ice for a few minutes at a time. For five days following the treatment, it is recommended you massage the areas treated for 5 minutes, 5 times a day.
With so many treatments, knowing how to address your concerns can be difficult.

Dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are liquid or gel substances, such as hyaluronic acid, that diminish lines by pushing up the dermis space beneath wrinkles and creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months.
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that is used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically 2-3 treatments over the course of three to four months) and can last up to two years.
As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic is different. It works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin to gradually help restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

While primarily known for facial rejuvenation (cheeks, temples, and jawline), Sculptra can also effectively treat volume loss in the hands, décolletage, buttocks, and even knees. This versatility makes Sculptra an excellent option for comprehensive age-defying treatments.
We offer Sculptra treatments that provide numerous benefits. Here's how this innovative filler can enhance your appearance:
If you are unhappy with the loss of volume in your smile lines and marionette lines, Sculptra is a great option for you. Since results are gradual and subtle, it is not for those who are looking for immediate results.
At The Spa at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, your injector ensures your Sculptra treatment is effective and integrated into your lifestyle.

While you may notice some immediate volume enhancement due to the injection process, true Sculptra results begin to appear around 4-6 weeks after treatment. The magic of Sculptra lies in its gradual, progressive enhancement, with optimal results typically developing over 3-6 months as collagen production increases. Most patients see their final results after completing a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.
One of Sculptra's most impressive features is its longevity. Results can last up to 2 years or more, with effects gradually fading to maintain a natural look. We recommend touch-up treatments every 1-2 years to prolong your results.
Most patients find Sculptra treatments to be comfortable. At The Spa at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, we mix Sculptra with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to minimize discomfort during injection. Some patients may experience mild pain or pressure during the procedure, which is typically well-tolerated and short-lived.
Sculptra can be effectively combined with other aesthetic treatments for comprehensive rejuvenation. Your injection expert may recommend combining Sculptra with treatments like Botox for wrinkle reduction or other dermal fillers for areas that need immediate volume. During your consultation, we'll discuss the best combination of treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals.
The number of Sculptra treatments needed varies by individual, but most patients require a series of 2-3 sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. Some patients may achieve their desired results with fewer treatments, while others might benefit from additional sessions.
While Sculptra is generally safe when administered by a skilled professional, some temporary side effects may occur. These can include swelling, redness, bruising, or small bumps at the injection sites. These effects typically resolve within a few days to a week. More serious side effects are rare.
Sculptra is unique among dermal fillers because it stimulates your body's own collagen production rather than just adding volume directly. This results in gradual, natural-looking improvements that can last up to two years or more. While traditional hyaluronic acid fillers provide immediate results, Sculptra offers longer-lasting effects and overall skin quality improvement.
