Tighten Up Your Act

What is sagging skin?

Aging skin begins sagging as the structural support beneath it–tissue, fat, and even bone–gradually breaks down. Not only do fine lines and wrinkles begin appearing, but the skin starts to slip downward, tugged by gravity. Jowls begin forming, and the lines stretching from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) deepen. Our Maryville med spa east of St. Louis addresses your concerns about sagging skin as part of a customized treatment plan.

Treatments for Sagging Skin

What is the sagging skin procedure like?

Nonsurgical, anti-aging treatments can help lift and smooth sagging skin that still retains much of its elasticity. Dr. Ryan Diederich can determine if a minimally invasive treatment, such as injectable fillers, can produce desired results or if you’re better suited for facial plastic surgery. The Spa at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery often combines fillers with other anti-wrinkle treatments to combat sagging skin. These treatments include:

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, such as the JUVÉDERM product line, are among our med spa's most commonly used anti-aging treatments. Our aesthetic specialists understand the relationship between sagging skin and wrinkles and use fillers to address both cosmetic concerns. For example, the volume added by injecting JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® into the mid-face area can help lift sagging skin on the lower part of the face. Other fillers offered at our med spa include Restylane® products, including Lyft™ and Defyne™. Injectable fillers produce results almost immediately and can last between 9 months and two years, depending on the filler used.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra is considered a filler but, unlike JUVÉDERM and Restylane products, isn’t formulated using hyaluronic acid. Instead, Sculptra is made with poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA), which offers unique benefits for patients concerned about moderately sagging skin. Sculptra restores volume and creates a “lifted” appearance because it is a bio-stimulatory filler, meaning it stimulates your skin to produce new collagen. The results appear gradually and look very natural.

Sylfirm X for Sagging Skin

Sylfirm X is an advanced radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device designed to address various skin concerns, including sagging skin. This innovative treatment combines the benefits of traditional microneedling with the power of radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production and tighten skin. It can be an excellent option for those experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity who prefer a non-surgical approach.

Non-Invasive Solutions

Sagging Skin Treatment Results

Non-surgical treatments for sagging skin can provide noticeable improvements without the downtime associated with surgery.

Many patients experience some immediate tightening effects after their first session, but the most significant enhancements typically develop over time. You can expect gradual improvements 2-3 months following treatment, with optimal results usually visible 3-6 months after completing the full treatment series.

The longevity of results varies, but most patients enjoy improvements for 6-12 months initially. Proper skin care and maintenance treatments can extend these results to last 1-2 years. While the skin continues to age naturally, the collagen stimulation from these treatments often provides lasting benefits to overall skin quality.

As for the specific results, you can anticipate a noticeable reduction in skin laxity, particularly in areas like the cheeks, jawline, and neck. Your skin texture should become smoother and more even, with a softening of fine lines and wrinkles. Many patients also experience enhanced facial contours, especially along the jawline, contributing to an overall refreshed and more youthful appearance without dramatic changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sagging skin treatments can address multiple areas of the body, including the face, neck, jawline, arms, abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. Non-surgical treatments like Sylfirm X are particularly effective for facial and neck areas, while surgical options like body lifts can target larger areas.

Ideal candidates for sagging skin treatments are generally healthy individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity who wish to improve their appearance without major surgery. Candidates should have realistic expectations and be willing to maintain results with proper skincare. The best way to determine your candidacy is through a consultation with Dr. Ryan Diederich.

The cost of sagging skin treatments varies widely depending on the type of procedure, the areas treated, and the number of sessions required. Non-surgical treatments like Sylfirm X typically range from $300 to $800 per session, while surgical procedures cost several thousand dollars. We provide detailed pricing information during your consultation and offer financing options to help make treatments more accessible.

Surgical treatments, such as facelifts or body lifts, involve incisions to remove excess skin and reposition underlying tissues. They provide more dramatic, long-lasting results but require significant recovery time. Non-surgical treatments like Sylfirm X use technologies such as radiofrequency or ultrasound to stimulate collagen production and tighten skin from within. These treatments offer more subtle results with minimal downtime but may require multiple sessions and periodic maintenance.

To maintain your results, it's essential to follow a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and staying hydrated. Protect your skin from sun damage by using broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. Follow a consistent skincare routine recommended by Dr. Diederich. For non-surgical treatments, scheduling periodic maintenance sessions can prolong results. Surgical results can be maintained with good skin care practices and occasionally complemented with non-invasive treatments as needed.
